Madison Central Dominates Oxford in Wire-to-Wire Win

Hot shooting, defensive pressure, and transition scoring fueled a commanding performance Tuesday night.

Madison, Miss. — Tuesday, Feb. 2

Madison Central set the tone early Tuesday night at Madison Central High School and never let up, cruising to a 77–42 victory over Oxford behind a strong shooting start and relentless defensive pressure.

Madison Central wasted no time establishing control in the opening quarter, leaning heavily on the three-point shot. The Jaguars knocked down five triples in the first quarter, building an early 11-point lead as Oxford struggled to keep pace. When perimeter shots briefly stopped falling late in the quarter and into the early stages of the second, Madison Central adjusted by attacking the basket, continuing to generate points through dribble penetration.

Oxford had difficulty creating offense in its half-court sets, and Madison Central’s defense began to assert itself. The Jaguars jumped passing lanes, forced turnovers, and capitalized on Oxford’s careless possessions, turning defensive stops into scoring opportunities.

Madison Central closed the second quarter on a surge, hitting two unanswered three-pointers and adding a pair of inside baskets to stretch the lead heading into halftime. The Jaguars entered the break firmly in control with a 38–21 advantage.

The dominance continued in the third quarter as Madison Central pulled away even further, extending the margin to 59–33. Defensive intensity remained high, with deflections and steals leading to easy fast-break points. Oxford continued to struggle offensively in the half court, unable to find consistent scoring options.

Much of Oxford’s offense came through point guard JaKavion Majors, who displayed strong court vision and a high basketball IQ throughout the night. Majors consistently delivered quality passes and worked to create opportunities for teammates, though support was limited. On one possession, he found a soft spot in the defense and called for the ball on a wide-open three-point look, but the pass never came. After another missed opportunity, Majors took matters into his own hands, attacking the lane and drawing contact to earn a trip to the free-throw line.

Despite Majors’ effort, Madison Central’s depth and defensive pressure proved overwhelming. The Jaguars controlled the pace throughout the final quarter, closing out the game comfortably to secure the 77–42 win.

With the regular season set to conclude at the end of the week ahead of the postseason, Madison Central’s performance could carry important implications. The Jaguars’ strong showing keeps them in the conversation as they look to close the regular season on a high note and position themselves favorably entering the playoff stretch.
